An Honest Review of the Solawave Light Therapy Skincare Wand

LED light therapy is making waves, quite literally, as the newest up-and-coming skincare trend. LED light therapy most popularly utilizes red and blue wavelengths to help combat acne, reduce wrinkles, smooth fine lines, and reverse sun damage. With the rise in popularity and accessibility of at-home light therapy treatments, I decided to try out the Solawave Advanced Skincare Wand with Red Light Therapy.

Disclaimer: I received the Solawave skincare wand complimentary from Solawave. I was not required to post in exchange. All opinions are my own.

What is Solawave?

Solawave provides award-winning, dermatologist-approved skincare wands that incorporate LED light therapy to achieve powerful results. The Advanced Skincare Wand with Red Light Therapy combines red light therapy, microcurrent, therapeutic warmth, and facial massage. These four technologies work together to fade blemishes, smooth fine lines, boost skin glow, and amplify the effectiveness of serums and moisturizers.

The California-based company sells two additional skincare wands. The Anti-Breakout Wand with Blue Light Therapy is designed for acne-prone skin to fight breakouts. The new Bye Acne Light Therapy Spot Treatment is a three-minute light treatment. The FDA-cleared skincare wand targets and treats acne-causing bacteria, active breakouts, and inflammation with red light and blue light therapy.

What are the skincare benefits of LED Light Therapy?

Red Light Therapy: Red light therapy is most often used to smooth fine lines and give skin an overall healthy, youthful glow. The Solawave red light wand features a wavelength of 660 nm.

Blue Light Therapy: Blue light therapy is used to help fight existing breakouts and prevent future breakouts. The Solawave blue light wand features a wavelength of 415nm.

Red + Blue Light Therapy: Red and blue light work together to give you the best of both worlds. The red light helps to reduce inflammation and post-acne hyperpigmentation, while the blue light reduces sebum production and acne-causing bacteria. According to Solawave, this powerful duo can reduce pimples, blackheads, whiteheads, sebum production, and skin inflammation and brightens skin tone. The spot treatment device utilizes blue light therapy with 415nm wavelength and red light therapy with 630nm wavelength.

Is Solawave Worth the Hype?

I really love my Solawave red light therapy wand. After only one use, my skin felt tighter and looked overall more radiant. After 2-3 weeks, I noticed it was working to smooth over some fine lines on my forehead. While I didn’t receive drastic overnight results, I definitely noticed a difference in my skin tone, texture, and overall glow.

I tried the Solawave wand for the first time with the Renew Complex Activating Serum. While I loved how the serum allowed the wand to easily glide across my skin, I think it made me break out. With that being said, I have super acne-prone skin, so the breakouts could have been triggered by any number of things.

As someone who actively fights acne flare-ups, I wish I had tried out the spot treatment with both red and blue light therapy. The trade-off is that the Bye Acne Light Therapy Spot Treatment (the device with both red and blue light) doesn’t incorporate microcurrent, therapeutic warmth, and facial massage.

Final Thoughts

Solawave devices are more affordable than similar light therapy products on the market. I personally wanted a wand versus a face mask because it’s super portable. It easily fits into my overnight bag and holds enough charge for 12 treatments.
