Top Beauty Oils You Never Knew You Needed

As someone with naturally oily skin, whenever I hear the word “oil” it’s immediately off-putting. The first thing that pops into my head are clogged pores, and how the last thing I’d ever want to do is add more oil to my already oily skin. However, the reality is, oils are filled with amazing antioxidants that can be super beneficial for your skin. I highly recommend checking out this article from The Cut about everything you need to know about putting oils on your face. Read below for the top beauty oils you never knew you were missing out on!

Tea Tree Oil

I first learned about the skincare benefits of tea tree oil back in middle school. When I first began dealing with acne, my mom bought a massive bottle of tea tree oiler cleanser from Whole Foods for me to try. I loved this cleanser, and it was truly my holy grail product, but once I ran out, the company changed its formula and the product was never the same. Embarrassingly enough, since then I COMPLETELY forgot how much I loved tea tree oil until I was getting a facial a few weeks ago. I get terrible blackheads along my t-zone, and my esthetician suggested I try tea tree oil again. I recommend checking out this Marie Claire article before incorporating tea tree oil into your skincare routine.

Coconut Oil

I’ve used coconut oil for years as a deep conditioner for my curly hair to help fight frizz. It smells amazing and leaves my hair looking and feeling its best, but did you know coconut oil also is an amazing makeup remover? According to Allure, "Coconut oil solubilizes or breaks up water-resistant substances used in eye shadow and mascara, releasing them from the skin and lashes.” This sounds all well and good, but I know like-minded people are going to ask if coconut oil will clog your pores. Check out this Byrdie article that weighs the pros and cons. I highly recommend checking out this article before using coconut oil as a makeup remover!

Castor Oil

Castor oil is a new one for me. I just got my eyebrows waxed for the first time in almost six years because I was always so paranoid I was going to over-wax and end up with tiny eyebrows. I expressed my concern to my amazing friend Bre’Anna over at Allure Spa & Skin Health Boutique, and she recommended I use castor oil on my eyebrows every night. Funny enough, castor oil is one of “the best hair growth serums available to help your brows and lashes grow thicker and faster” (read more here). According to Target’s Tips Bulletin, “castor oil prevents hair loss from the eyebrows, fatty acids nourish the hair and stimulate more hair growth in eyebrows, and finally, it stimulates blood circulation in the skin.”
