Long Weekend: Duck, North Carolina

WOW, what a whirlwind of a weekend! Back in June, Matt set up a trip to Duck, North Carolina to celebrate my 23rd birthday. Little did I know, he had way more planned than a birthday trip and ended up PROPOSING! I have been to Duck a few times in the past, but the town will definitely always have a special place in our hearts after this weekend.

We stayed in the cutest Airbnb that was super spacious, clean and just a short walk to the ocean. The place was well equipped, especially the kitchen, with everything we would ever need for a weekend get away! Check out the exact place we stayed. I highly recommend checking out Airbnb properties for weekend getaways. Generally, these properties are better suited for short weekend stays than properties on VRBO or HomeAway.

What We Did

Early Saturday morning, we drove to Duck Donuts for their delicious, made-to-order donuts. I’m so happy we went early (around 7:30 a.m.) because there was already a line forming filled with dozens of people waiting to get their donuts. We decided to take our donuts and enjoy them on the beach. Matt ended up proposing while we were enjoying the beach after breakfast! I’ll share the full story in an upcoming blog post!

After we got engaged, the rest of the day with pretty much a washout with storms. Matt and I decided to drive 30 minutes to Jockey’s Ridge State Park, home to the tallest sand dune on the Atlantic coast. It’s not difficult to see why this is the most visited park in the North Carolina park system; it’s a fantastic place for families to go and explore. At the top of one of the highest peaks, you have nearly 360 degree views of the ocean and sound. Pictures truly don’t do this place justice!

We got up early on Sunday morning for one last walk on the beach before checking out of our Airbnb and heading home. It was such a fantastic trip and a perfect weekend getaway!
