My Honest Experience with Hello Fresh

I am way late to the subscription bandwagon, but I recently tried Hello Fresh for the first time. Hello Fresh is a meal-kit subscription service filled with high-quality ingredients and easy-to-follow recipes delivered straight to your door. I had known about Hello Fresh for a while but never really understood the hype. I love cooking and never really saw the need. However, enter the almost-year-long global pandemic… Matt and I now eat 99% of our meals at home and I have completely run out of ideas for new things to make! I was ready for a change and to try something new.

I’m a super picky eater and hate leftovers, so I was excited by the idea that we get to select our meals and serving sizes for a new and yummy meal every night. In my first box, I got the Gouda Vibes Burgers, Southwestern Shrimp Tacos, and Chicken over Garlic Parmesan Spaghetti.

To be perfectly candid, I had a pretty rocky introduction to Hello Fresh. One of my close friends had a free box coupon, and I was eager to order meals for that week. I selected the meals on Sunday with a delivery date of Thursday. Thursday came and went, and no box was delivered. I spent some quality time the next few days with Hello Fresh support trying to figure out what went wrong. On Thursday, I chatted with support and was told the box was delayed because of the snow but would be delivered the next day. When it wasn’t delivered the next day, I chatted again and was told they had no record of my order.

I had planned my groceries for that week around receiving our order and was totally bummed when it didn’t come. I finally was able to officially place my order, and it was delivered a week later.

Although I had a frustrating start to Hello Fresh, I was still super excited to receive my first box. Each meal was individually packaged and accompanied by a detailed recipe card for how to make each item. Matt and I made the Gouda Vibes Burgers as our first meal and they were absolutely delicious: medium-well burger, toasted bun, potato wedges and tomato onion jam.
